“I’m constantly inspired by students who ask me questions I have never thought of before.”

Hi there! I’m Lorenz and I’ve been a German language teacher since 2015. Before embarking on my teaching path, I studied German Studies and German as a Foreign Language. Then, in 2015 I travelled to China and taught German at a university. It was a super exciting experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed the work.

Meeting people from all over the world is what I enjoy most about being a German teacher. Personally, I have quite a lot of international experience – I lived in Japan as a kid, travelled a lot, have been an intern in Mumbai, and I taught in Romania, Mexico, and China – so I understand what it’s like to be in an unfamiliar and new culture. That’s why it’s so stimulating to share and learn about different experiences. I’m constantly inspired by students who ask me questions I have never thought of before. Yes, you need to have patience to be a good teacher, but it is very rewarding. Additionally, the atmosphere here at INNES makes it fun to teach and easy to concentrate on my job. My colleagues are wonderful, which makes it a pleasure to come into work every day.

My favourite spots in Vienna are on or around the Donauinsel. There’s so much to do: from going for walks and bike rides to going for a swim to meeting friends for a drink in one of the cool bars on the waterfront.

Truly fun words are used for insults in German. One of my favourites is ‘Watschengesicht’. It’s not a specifically Viennese word, because we also use it where I come from, Bavaria. It describes a person who has a face that deserves a slap. I also recently learnt ‘Wappler’, which I also like. It’s a person who is incompetent and/or considered to be somewhat mentally limited.

Are you ready to learn German in a way that you’ve never experienced before?
